Over the past year, BIGBANG has broadened its musical spectrum by transitioning from their original urban R&B and hip-hop roots to a more diverse range of styles, including electronica. The Special Edition album released this time captures the period of musical change as it contains representative songs (including solos) released by BIGBANG over the past year. Two standout tracks from the album are the double title tracks, "LOVE SONG" and "STUPID LIAR." "LOVE SONG," co-written and composed by G-DRAGON and Teddy, masterfully blends electronica rhythms with modern rock elements, highlighted by a relaxed arrangement and sophisticated vocal arrangement. On the other hand, "STUPID LIAR" is a track that can be sensed as having a more popular appeal, especially in terms of the vocal melody line and addictive chorus. Another new track, "BABY DON’T CRY," is DAESUNG’s solo track that was only performed at BIGBANG's solo concert in February 2010. These include the electrifying fusion of club hip-hop sound and electronica in their 4th mini-album title track, "TONIGHT"; the captivating blend of scattered drums, brass section in the chorus, and sensual vocal lines in "CAFE"; the minimalistic electronica track "SOMEBODY TO LOVE"; and tracks from GD&TOP's rap unit 1st album, "HIGH HIGHT" and "OH YEAH." Fans can also enjoy TAEYANG's "I NEED A GIRL," which did not disappoint fans with its urban R&B charm. Here, you can feel BIGBANG's footsteps over the past year. BIGBANG continues to dazzle and delight, as they add a splash of color to the domestic music scene that leans heavily towards idol-focused tunes.
